How do I select a perfect swimming pool builder in glendale?

First, you will need to choose the type of pool that you want. There are many options, so it is important to select the one that best suits your needs. Some people prefer to have a deck that can be moved closer or farther from their home, depending on the season and their preferences. Others may wish the deck to match a theme they already have in mind for their backyards. Some homeowners will fill the whole area with water. This is called an aqua space, or Florida room. This is a great way for loved ones to spend quality time together without taking up too much space.

Pool builders are like car designers. Everybody has their own idea of the ideal vehicle, and dealerships make decisions based on subjective aesthetics. Swimming areas are no different. It is the homeowners' responsibility to find an architect who will allow them to make some choices that may leave room for ambiguity so they can choose the design that suits their personal preferences. Two pools cannot be identical in any way, just as two cars are not alike. Although builders aren't architects, unless they are experts, differences between pools are an opinion of contractors in the field.

It is important to find a pool builder who has the experience and understanding of your needs. It is important to have a strong connection with your pool builder, in addition to a degree.

What are the pros and cons of converting a pool to salt water?

I’ll sum up first by saying I believe there is no net advantage to a salt pool. It only trades one relatively easy to solve problem for another problem that happens to be a bit more complex. Let me also admit that I am not a chemist, nor do I pretend to be one, so I have a layman’s understanding of the terms and specifics in regards to the reactions and results of salt generated chlorine production.

    Salt Pro’s -

Don’t need to buy, transport, store or handle chlorine. It is not nice stuff, and fumes don’t play well with metal in the garage, kids or pets.

Steady production of chlorine from cell rather than spikes from tablets.

No need to worry about a caustic ball of yellow chlorine soup going through your heater if you use a timer.

Chlorine levels when generating in the cell are 10 ppm+ meaning the water is getting “shocked” and chloramines broken down as water passes through it when it is generating chlorine gas. Shocking is not generally necessary with a properly run salt pool.

    Salt Con’s -

Initial cost of cell and installation, and replacement cost every few years.

Cell cleaning as necessary using muriatic acid

Here’s the big one, the one that really does it in: Caustic soda. The chlorine produced at the cell has a by-product called caustic soda that has a pH of 12 or 13. Suffice it to say it is very very high. A pool, for swimmer comfort, should be somewhere between 7.4 and 7.6, and for plaster health optimal pH may vary based on other factors in the Langelier Saturation Index, but suffice to say for a typical summer mid 7’s is the goal. So the by-product caustic soda drives up the pH whenever the cell is on. Muriatic acid is the most common method of reducing pH, and the most effective version is in liquid form. It is harmful to metal, concrete and just about anything relating to the human body. You do not want to spill it. Anywhere. It lowers pH well enough, but it also lowers alkalinity, so sodium bicarb needs to be added to raise the alkalinity. All good, except it is a constant process, just like adding chlorine tablets was a constant process before and muriatic acid is now the most commonly added product. That’s arguably more dangerous and noxious than chlorine tablets, and it has to be added just about as often.

Hope that helps, and wasn’t as clear as mud :)
